TW vs Verizon

Postby joyandjon » Sat Jan 26, 2008 10:11 am

We had TW where we lived before and had planned to continue with them when we moved to KC. However, TW failed to run the cable lines onto our property before we moved in and after 3 weeks of being told by the home office that the lines had been run and then scheduling numerous appts. for the technician to complete the hookup only to have the tech tell us the lines were not run we finally gave TW the boot.

Verizon hasn't been the greatest service, but at least we have service.

We're on Time Warner now because we had an absolutely miserable experience with Verizon. Verizon really did not miss a single opportunity to screw things up.

The first guy told me Verizon didn't offer any service in Morrisville. On the next call we were signed up for a plan that wasn't available in the area. Next we were told it was "the legislature's fault" that the plan wasn't available in the area (I found that one particularly interesting since I work at the legislature and am sometmes involved in telecommunications issues - trust me, it's not the legislature's fault). The resulting "plan" was about 50% more than promised. When we decided to cancel, I could not get our customer service rep to return calls. After we cancelled, we still got bills for DSL because the phone people didn't sind the cancel order to the DSL people. It took over 2 months for Verizon to refund us costs in disconnecting satellite service. And, best of all, after finally sending us a refund check, Verizon turned us over to a collection agency for the amount of the refund check because their computer system was wrong. We're still "arguing" over this one (although Verizon has admitted we're right) because of the alleged time lag in correcting credit reports.

Obviously, I would strongly advise against Verizon.

That is a terrible experience, especially the part about the credit report.

I'm surprised we can't have FiOS from verizon, we're a brand new neighborhood and just down the street from one of their main buildings.

Does anyone know how to get a good upload speed?

I'm changing jobs and it's going to require me to do some massive uploads from home. Does anyone have a service that gets over 512k upload? I already have Road Runner premiere with turbo boost and get almost 20,000k download, but upload is killing me.

Thanks for any help on this.
